First look at Pennywise the clown in ‘IT’ remake
It: 1st Image of Pennywise Clown Character Released From Stephen King Adaptation Film

Stephen King’s horror classic IT is getting a big-screen remake TWENTY-SIX years after Pennywise the clown first terrorized a generation of moviegoers.

Bill Skarsgard will be stepping into Tim Curry's clown shoes as the sewer-dwelling demonic creature preying on the fears of a group of children in a small Maine town.

This time around, the story will be split over two films, with the first part to be released in September 2017.

“It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look,” Skarsgard told Entertainment Weekly of his ghoulish character, who debuted this first shot.

“It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt,” the actor said.

“What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.”

As for the story itself — a gut-churning tale about a monstrous spirit who terrorizes seven children, exploiting their various fears and phobias — a producer has described their spin as “fun”.

“It is very close to the source material in one way but very different if you look at it as a literary piece of work,” producer Roy Lee said in February. “We’re taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel. But it’s gonna be a really fun way of making this movie.”
