Rihanna just dropped the video for her Star Trek: Beyond track, and suffice to say it gives the film itself a run for its money in terms of visuals.

The singer’s track Sledgehammer, the audio for which was released earlier this week, is a power ballad which definitely isn’t about aliens.

Yet in the video, 28-year-old Rihanna appears to be playing an alien creature, with weird markings on her face, who’s hanging out on an arid planet experimenting with pyrotechnics.

The eye-popping visuals and stunning colours are the work of art studio MAAVVEN, but much of the video references the Star Trek movie itself.

Bet you didn’t know Rihanna had magic powers, or occasionally floated through space.

We haven’t been this impressed since Zayn released his Pillowtalk promo.

The Bajan singer has said her dad introduced her to Star Trek when she was young, and that she was delighted to be a part of the movie by providing a ‘haunting’ song.

Sledgehammer was allegedly written by Sia, which is no surprise considering how emotive the chorus is.

Rihanna has been on tour over here recently, where she’s cried on stage and sent pizza to fans.

Her romance with Drake is reportedly back on again after he was seen partying with her until 6am in London and appeared on stage with her in Manchester.

Next time you decide to head to a pretty boring alien planet for the afternoon, Rihanna, maybe take Drake with you? He’s pretty entertaining.
