Cobb couple Chantelle Driver  and Shomari Holmes charged as 21-month-old clings to life

COBB COUNTY. Ga. - Cobb County Police say a toddler is on life support after being physically abused by his father over the weekend.

According to an arrest warrant, Shomari Holmes, 21, of Marietta, is facing aggravated battery, simple battery and second-degree cruelty to children charges after hitting the toddler with closed fists in the head and ribs repeatedly, causing internal bleeding. Police say Holmes admitted to the alleged crimes in a video confession.

His fiancée, Chantelle Driver, 22, also of Marietta, is facing child cruelty and deprivation charges.

Police say the injuries to the young child occurred between Feb. 4 and Saturday at a home in Marietta but they believe the abuse have been going on for a while.

The child was taken to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where he has been on life support since Saturday
