ATLANTA - Federal authorities say an Atlanta-area dentist who filed nearly $1 million in false claims with Georgia's Medicaid program has been sentenced to prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney John Horn, Dr. Oluwatoyin Solarin, was sentenced to a year and six months in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $996,000 in restitution and forfeit her interest in more than a dozen real estate properties.

Horn says Solarin was the owner and operator of a dental practice called "Care Dental" with locations in Doraville and Duluth, Georgia. Authorities say between 2009 and 2013, Solarin filed false claims with the state's Medicaid program. Most of the claims listed her as the treating dentist even on days when she was out of the country.

Solarin used the illegally received money to buy real estate in the Atlanta area.
