Rome police officer Ernest Edward Cox arrested on drug, corruption charges

ROME, GA  -  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a 15-year veteran of the Rome Police Department for trafficking drugs, tampering with evidence and engaging in bribery.

Ernest Edward Cox, 39, was arrested after a six-month investigation into allegations of police corruption against him. The Rome Police Department contacted the GBI in October of 2016 after receiving the tip.

Cox is facing one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of violation of oath of office, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of bribery charges.

He is being held at the Floyd County Jail without bond.
