64-year-old man dies in southwest Atlanta apartment fire
One dead as firefighters battle blaze at SW Atlanta apartment complex

ATLANTA - Atlanta firefighters say An early morning apartment fire in southwest Atlanta claimed the life of a 64-year-old man.

The blaze started around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Venetian Hills Apartment Complex located on Campbellton Road.

Once firefighters arrived and were able to safely enter the building, they found the 64-year-old victim in his bedroom on the second floor. Authorities have not released his identity yet but said he lived in the unit where the blaze broke out.

According to Dep. Chief Randall Slaughter, The victim has four roommates all who managed to escape.

About 12 residents have been displaced by the fire, according to Sgt. Cortez Stafford. The Red Cross is assisting the victims, and a MARTA bus had to be used to keep people warm.
