Two drivers, including an off-duty Atlanta Police officer have been charged for their involvement in a drag racing incident that killed a 20-year-old man.

On Feb. 21, officer Shawn Jones Jr and Jade Dibaje were each charged with two counts of speeding, one count of racing, one count of reckless driving and one count of first-degree vehicular homicide, according to the GSP.

According to authorities, on Sept. 14, Officer Jones was driving his Dodge Challenger down Peachtree Street with a passenger identified as Ramish Attai, 20, when his car slammed into a stone wall. Attai sustained "substantial injuries" and was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Jones is the son of the Assistant Police Chief Shawn Jones Sr., and has been with the department since November 2011.

GSP's investigation confirmed that speed was a factor in the crash and witnesses told authorities that it appeared Jones was racing another car before the crash happened.
