FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. —
Travelers passing through Florida's Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport described chaos Friday morning when a person opened fire at a baggage claim.
Witnesses, including former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, said shots were fired just before 1 p.m.
Police told Fleischer five people were injured by a single shooter. However, authorities indicated to multiple news outlets that as many as nine people were injured. five people were killed in the shooting, according to NBC News.

Authorities had one person, believed to be the shooter, in custody, sources told multiple news networks.
Airport officials confirmed around 1:20 p.m. that an incident was reported in the baggage claim of Terminal 2
The lower level of the airport was closed as police investigated.
