The dance teacher was charged with unlawful sexual activity and providing a minor with alcohol

A married teacher at an alternative high school in Utah has been arrested after an alleged sexual encounter with one of her 17-year-old male students.

Sarah Lindsay Lewis, 27, a social studies and dance teacher at Landmark High School in Spanish Fork is said to have had sex with the student at her home. She has been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Payson police Lt. Bill Wright said the incident happened at Lewis' home in early January, and "whether it was planned or spontaneous, we don't know," said Wright.

The mother-of-one has been put on leave from the school in Utah

Police are still investigating, but believe it was a one-time occurrence.

"It's a tragedy that things like this occur," said Wright. "It's one of those mind-bogglers. You have to shake your head at it."
