Police say a former Houston middle school IT worker was arrested after being accused of impregrating a 13-year-old student at the school
Mauricio Orlando Mendoza, 37, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than 14. He was booked into the Harris County jail where he bonded out on a $50,000 bond and surrendering his passport.
Investigators said the allegations came to light after the student's mother found text messages between Mendoza and her daughter in December and told officials at Hartman Middle School, the Houston Chronicle reports.
In court Thursday, prosecutors said Mendoza had sex with the girl in the school's library and his office. A pregnancy test performed on the girl was positive.
"The defendant is believed to be the father of the unborn child," Assistant Harris County District Attorney Patrick Stayton said.
Prosecutors don't believe there are other victims, KTRK-TV reported.
