Richard Mourdock, Republican Senate candidate, says rape pregnancies 'something God intended

Another day, another controversial Republican comment about rape. Indiana's Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock was asked at a Tuesday-night debate whether he thinks abortions should be allowed in the case of rape or incest. Stating his belief that "life begins at conception," Mourdock said he would only make an exception for abortions when the life of the mother is endangered. "I came to realize that life is that gift from God," he continued. "Even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen." Mourdock sought to clarify his comments in a statement after the debate, saying: "God does not want rape ... Rape is a horrible thing, and for anyone to twist my words otherwise is absurd and sick." [Source]
