Keoin Carpenter

ATLANTA - A former Atlanta Falcon player Keion Carpenter -- who also played safety for the Buffalo Bills -- died Thursday morning after collapsing during a workout earlier this week ... a family spokesperson confirmed.

39-year-old Carpenter -- a standout player at Virginia Tech in the late '90s -- was working out on a family vacation when he collapsed and fell into a coma.

Carpenter played six seasons from 1999 to 2005 after starting out as a free agent.

The family issued a statement moments ago confirming his death.

Upon retirement, Carpenter established "The Carpenter House", a non-profit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged families find homes.
