Massive leak reveals major new features coming to WhatsApp

A new leaked report shows that messaging service WhatsApp is set to introduce a range of new features in an upcoming beta version. According to German tech site Macerkopf, there will include support for larger emojis, public groups and mention.

WhatsApp also announced earlier this month that users will soon be able to send GIF images to each other via the app. Users will also now be able to join any public group chat just by clicking on a link, which can be controlled by admins with the power to govern the group. The mentions will work in a similar style to Twitter mentions, enabling users to tag a contact in their address book in a chat, which will send them a notification.

This news comes as WhatsApp, which has over a billion users worldwide, announced that its voice service has become incredibly popular in its first year, revealing that WhatsApp users are making over 100 million voice calls a day.
