WARNING: This article contains spoilers which some viewers may wish to avoid.

The TMNT fanboy in me is wailing with sorrow at having to report this news, but one of the green, heroic shellbacks has been brutally killed off in the IDW comic series of the same name.

In the serial’s 44th edition, Donatello, who fans of the 80s TV hit will remember is the one who does all the inventions, was dispatched by Rocksteady, one of the henchman of evil Shredder.

Noooooo! (Picture: IDW)

While those only familiar with the cartoon series will remember Rocksteady and Bebop as bumbling idiots prone to failure, they prove much more of a threat in the comics, as poor Donny discovered to his peril.

The comic, entitled Attack on the Technodrome, is bound to leave long term fans emotional, as Donatello’s friends and companions gather to mourn their fallen friend.

And even those who have never read one of the comics in their lives will feel pangs of sadness at the end of an era in the cult world of the Turtles.

RIP, Donatello.

You were totally radical, dude.
