THE highly anticipated reboot of Tomb Raider has finally cast its new Lara Croft – and she's a smoking' hot Oscar winner.

Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander will replace Angelina Jolie as the bad ass heroine.

Some of Hollywood's biggest names including Cara Delevigne, Saoirse Ronan and Emilia Clarke were eyeing the role, with Alicia confirmed as the leading lady yesterday.

IMBD suggests that the new film will be a prequel and will follow Lara on her very first adventure.

"Following the origins of a young Lara Croft on her first archaeological expedition, she must use her strength and harness her skills in order to survive a crazed Island cult and unlock mythological secrets surrounding her mysterious whereabouts."

IN DEMAND: Alecia Vikander has eight movies in the works

The first two Tomb Raider films were a cultural phenomenon and launched Angelina Jolie into superstardom.

They grossed millions at the box office and fans have eagerly awaited a new film since The Cradle of Life was released 13 years ago.

The video game franchise of the same name remains one of the biggest in the world since its debut on the original PlayStation back in 1996.

No word yet on when the film will hit cinemas but there'll be plenty more of Alicia Vikander to see.

NOT SHY: Alicia stripped starkers in 2015's Ex Machina

The 27-year-old is one of Hollywood's most in demand actresses and has around eight films in the pipeline.

She will star alongside Matt Damon in the new Jason Bourne thriller later this year.

Given that The Danish Girl actress isn't shy when it comes to showing off her body on screen, we expect she'll bring plenty of sass and sex appeal to the role.
