Brussels sprouts

Nurse! Light a match! An Australian medical journal printed the first known case of OD by sprout, when a Scottish man suffered heart trouble after a feast of the leafy treats during Christmas 2011. The sprouts contain lots of vitamin K, which promotes blood clotting, but also counteracts the anticoagulants this man took to maintain his mechanical heart. Once they realized the problem, doctors stabilized his condition, and then presumably opened all the windows they could. "Whilst we think this is possibly the first-ever festive admission to hospital caused by the consumption of Brussels sprouts, we were delighted that we were able to stabilize his levels," hospital Chief Executive Jill Young said.
