A Chinese woman has given birth to a 13lbs 10oz (6.17kg) baby.

The 27-year-old mother credited her diet after giving birth to one of the country’s largest-ever babies.

‘I drink one glass of milk (and) eat an egg every day,’ she told Chinese state TV.

‘That’s a must since I became pregnant. I also ate a lot of fruit.’

Shanghai hospital doctors agreed her diet had contributed to the size of the baby, but added the fact she spent the majority of her pregnancy in bed also made a difference.

Experts warned the baby could suffer health problems as it got older.

‘Obesity may affect the baby’s health in the future,’ said Fudan University’s Xu Chang’en.

‘Rates of obesity and diabetes are obviously higher for an adolescent or an adult who was born overweight.’
