Police charge Canton mom Alyssa Kincaid in death of 25-day-old daughter

Cherokee County sheriff’s detectives have taken out an arrest warrant for the mother of a baby who died Sunday.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Alyssa Kincaid, 24, of Canton.

Cherokee County sheriff’s detectives said she is wanted on a charge of second-degree cruelty to children in connection with the death of her daughter. The baby died at 24 days old, police said.

Police arrested and charged Kincaid’s boyfriend for the baby’s injuries.

Sheriff's spokesman Jay Baker said Sunday that 26-year-old Nicholas Campbell is charged with four counts each of child cruelty, aggravated assault and aggravated battery in the connection with the death of Ciara Campbell.

Baker said Campbell isn't the girl's biological father and is not married to her mother.

Baker said deputies responded Thursday night to a call about an unresponsive child and arrested Campbell after interviews with him, the girl's mother and her grandmother.

Baker said the injured baby died Sunday after being removed from life support at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Campbell was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and is being held without bond in the county jail.

Kincaid was last seen Sunday at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, sheriff’s officials said. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911 or detectives at 770-928-0239.
