Max enjoyed a very special trip to our nation's capital.

The 1-year-old Golden Retriever, who we're teaching to become a service dog for a veteran in need, joined his Canine Assistants instructor, Kristen Hill, and flew to Washington, D.C. for a weekend visit. Hill's husband, Jonathan, also accompanied them on the trip.

Max was in Washington, D.C. for the Epilepsy Foundation's National Walk for Epilepsy, serving as a representative for Canine Assistants. He met dozens of attendees and helped spread the message about what service dogs can do.

I had so much fun hanging out with @UCBUSA at the @EpilepsyFdn #NationalWalkforEpilepsy! I met a family on Thursday who lost their son and brother, Michael, to this disease...today was for him and everyone else who has Epilepsy! The trip may have been short, but it was full of learning experiences for Max, including staying focused during distracting situations while walking around the National Mall.

This wasn't Max's first trip to D.C., but he did enjoy some touristy stops along the way. Max spent time in front of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, and even the White House!

When you're only here for two days, you have to work hard to see everything! This city has lots of traffic, people, and amazing places...experiencing them now prepares me for life with my recipient! #OperationMax @CanineAssistant @FOX5Atlanta pic.twitter.com/DiWRXqw30F

Max also worked with his instructor on staying focused and remaining calm while flying. Delta was incredibly accommodating and helped make both flights the best possible experience for our future service dog.

All tucked in and ready to go! Thanks, @Delta, for giving me some extra room! #OperationMax pic.twitter.com/DBUH94IQuT
