Bird the macaw never left his owner Craig Buckner’s side – even during his arrest and mugshot (Picture: PA)

This is true friendship goals right here guys.

Who else would casually pose with you in your police mugshot just for moral support?

Bird would – as he rightly proved when his owner went in for a court appearance on Thursday and ended up getting arrested.

Craig Buckner had left Bird in a tree outside the court in Washington County while he appeared at an ongoing drug and theft case.

He was not expecting to be arrested, but when he fell asleep while waiting for his case to be called, he was made to take a drug urine test and failed.

When he was getting arrested, Buckner became very upset and uncooperative.

It was only a while later that officers realised he was worrying about his 4-year-old macaw, who was 30 feet up the tree outside in the dark and cold.

Sgt. Bob Ray, the sheriff’s spokesman, said: ‘He was very concerned about Bird the bird. Very distraught’.

So officers removed Buckner’s handcuffs and led him outside, at which point Bird immediately flew down to his owner.

They were forced to then take his mugshot with the macaw on his shoulder, until a friend came to pick Bird up.

Officers later took a real mugshot photo, without Bird, but his colourful feathers still managed to photobomb it.

Ray said: ‘We’re not all robots. We’re humans, we love animals and we want to do the right thing.he said.

‘For the animal, and for Mr. Buckner too.’
