Hutson Mason and Georgia rolled past Auburn 34-7

The Georgia Bulldogs are No.9 in the College football AP Poll.

The Georgia Bulldogs rose seven spots to No.9 in the college football AP Poll on Sunday. After their 34-7 victory over Auburn, Georgia moved to (8-2, 6-2) in the SEC. Their SEC schedule is done, and they are waiting to see if they earn a trip to the SEC championship game. If the Bulldogs win out, they’ll be in contention for one of the college football playoff spots. However, many things have to go right for that to happen.

Georgia is one of six SEC teams in the current AP Poll. The Alabama Crimson Tide knocked off Mississippi State, and moved ahead of Oregon into the No.2 spot. Alabama is the leader in the SEC West and they hold the head to head win over No.4 Mississippi State.

The Ole Miss Rebels rose a couple spots to No.8 in the country. In similar fashion to Georgia, the Rebels have two losses this season. They are also alive for the SEC title game, but they need to win their next two games, and have Auburn beat Alabama to have a chance.

Four of the top 10 teams in the AP Poll are from the SEC. The final two teams arrived at their position two different ways. The Auburn Tigers dropped to No.16 after two straight losses. Still, the Tigers can factor into the college football playoff as a huge spoiler.

The No.19 Missouri Tigers jumped up 9 spots after defeating Texas A&M. It’s widely suspected that the SEC champion would make the college football playoffs. If Missouri wins their remaining games, they’ll face the SEC West champion for the conference title. LSU and Texas A&M dropped out of the rankings altogether.

For Georgia, they have one more ranked opponent left on the schedule. They end the season with No.17 Georgia Tech. Whether they win or not, has no bearing on the SEC race, but it might be the difference between an ordinary bowl game, and performing in the playoffs.
