REJOICE: WhatsApp is finally allowing GIFs to be sent

Whatsapp is on the verge of embracing animated GIFs, the latest beta release on the iOS has hinted. A large majority of messaging apps – including Facebook messenger and Viber – already support a form of GIF use. Whatsapp, however, has so far decided to stick to static images, focusing instead on other improvements, most recently their end-to-end encryption.

That could all change with the next version of Whatsapp on the iOS. The social media accounts say that the new version of the app will automatically play GIF links. According to a report on The Next Web, the Whatsapp changelog notes that the app will save GIFs “as a simple image.”

Whatsapp is also rumored to have video chat coming into the messenger as well. Screenshots showing video calls working in the app have previously been leaked online, but so far nothing has been released.
