Uber to tell riders their fare before pick-up
Uber changing price scheme

Ride sharing app Uber is about to make a big change that’ll tell all of its customers exactly how much their fare will be before they step into the car – instead of a price estimate that often changes.

The company is testing the new system in New York and four other U.S. cities, as well as parts of India. The new system will be available to everyone who uses the app within the next few months, according to company officials. As of right now, only a small percentage of users have the option now.

“Knowing how much a ride will cost in advance is clearly something riders appreciate,” read an Uber blog post on their website. “And we now want more riders globally to benefit from this feature.”

Uber will, however, continue to use its surge pricing model, but now customers won’t see the rate for the rides. Instead, they will only see the fare. A small notice at the bottom of the app will say “fares are higher due to increased demand” when surge pricing is activated.
